Edward J. Mekel, DO

Dr. Mekel graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he was recognized by the Pennsylvania Optometric Association for highest academic achievement. He was also the recipient of awards from Bernell Optics and Bausch and Lomb for clinical excellence in the areas of binocular vision and contact lens care. Before joining the practice in 1991, Dr. Mekel received specialized training in pediatric vision care at the Eye Institute in Philadelphia. He also completed a comprehensive rotation in ocular disease management at the VA Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Mekel is committed to providing quality eye care to patients of all ages and has extensive experience fitting specialty contact lenses, managing pre and post-operative surgical patients, and coordinating low vision services. Dr. Mekel regularly attends numerous educational conferences to maintain the highest standards in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease.
